Tweet, Chirp, and Holla (a fresh take on @twitter)

According to rachelknoll.com: “Social media is used to connect but concurrently serves as a disconnect from society outside of the virtual world. In Listen and Repeat, a modified megaphone uses text to speech capabilities to recite tweets composed with the tag ‘nobody listens’ from the social media website Twitter. The megaphone has been installed on a mountain in Washington and dictates tweets to an audience of trees. ”

This is part of her series of work called “Interconnected Strategies to Disconnect”  Take a peak and share what you think …

Ok, Ok, so trees don’t talk in the conventional sense, and little blue birds don’t really tweet … but you can’t help but feel just how haunting this is.

Or just how much we long to be heard, seen, felt, touched and how alone we choose to feel about that. Even with a megaphone pressed to our lips, and the world at our finger tips, we still long for to feel connected.

And if we feel it, then collectively our audience feels it too.

They’re not looking for someone to force feed them Verimark products from home shoppers channels. They’re not looking to be told how to live their lives. They’re looking for someone to listen … someone to pause in the madness … and hear what it is that they really need.

That’s why talking at them fails and talking with them wins.

We’re all still people, souls having an experience in this time and space … and we all want to feel real.
